A carjacker couldn't perform in the clutch, or on one, Wednesday morning and walked away in disgust after learning the truck he planned to steal had a standard transmission, county police said.
A 24-year-old Crofton man had parked his 1985 Toyota truck at about 12:40 a.m. in the 900 block of Eastham Court and was walking to his apartment building when a man pulled a chrome-plated handgun on him. The gunman ordered the man to hand over his wallet and walk to his car, police said.
As they walked to the car, the gunman told the man to give him the keys. The robber then opened the driver's door to the truck, looked in and realized at once his efforts were foiled when he saw the stick shift.
The gunman ordered the man to walk away and made off with the victim's wallet, which contained only identification and credit cards, police said.
Man with gun robs Dunkin' Donuts shop
A gunman robbed the Odenton Dunkin' Donuts shop Wednesday morning of an undisclosed amount of cash, county police said.
The man walked into the store in the 1600 block of Annapolis Road about 1:25 a.m. He pulled out a black semiautomatic handgun and pointed it at a customer. The gunman told the customer not to move and then pointed the gun at the clerk.
The clerk handed over money from the cash register. The gunman also demanded money from the customer, but walked out when the man said he didn't have any, police said.
Severn man arrested on outstanding warrant
A Severn man was arrested Wednesday afternoon on an outstanding child support warrant and also was charged with assaulting a police officer, officials said.
Western District Officer Kevin W. Tribull was patrolling in the 1900 block of Arwell Court about 2 p.m. when he saw a Nissan 300ZX being driven by a man who was wanted by the sheriff's office.
Officer Tribull waited for the man to emerge from a house in that block and arrested him on the outstanding warrant charge. The man shoved the patrolman with both hands and ran, police said. Officer Tribull caught him after a brief chase. He surrendered after the officer threatened to douse him with pepper spray.
Recaio Rodrecus Medley, 20, of the 1900 block of Arwell Court, was charged with battering an officer and resisting arrest.
