Dr. Samuel L. Banks

July 31, 1995|By Mary Carter Smith

He loved words

such as "mellifluous"

He was not afraid

To send you to the dictionary

Yet what he was saying

Was so important

You didn't object

(Always stretching our minds)

He was unequivocal

In espousing truths

That made some uncomfortable

Yet he was a gentle man

And a gentleman

Sam inspired us

Sam encouraged us

Sam loved us

And we returned it

So long, Sam.

You will be missed.
