Man carjacked in his driveway by 2 masked gunmen

July 31, 1995

A Columbia man was robbed at gunpoint and carjacked by two masked men moments after he pulled his Mercedes-Benz into his driveway early Friday, Howard County police said.

Luis Curimbaba, 27, of the 12000 block of Gray Star Way in the Village of Harper's Choice was not injured in the attack.

Police credited Mr. Curimbaba's compliance with the robbers with saving him from harm. "He did exactly what he should have done," said Sgt. Steven Keller, a Howard police spokesman.

Mr. Curimbaba is the county's fourth carjacking victim this year, which also included an attempted carjacking. Police said two carjackings occurred in Howard last year.

About 12:45 a.m. Friday, police said Mr. Curimbaba was confronted by two men as he got out of his car. One man pointed a gun at him and the other stole his watch, wallet, a ring and car keys, police said.

The robbers fled in his gray 1987 Mercedes-Benz 300 with license plates 300-ASW.

Anyone with information should call Howard County police at 313-2220.
