Police still counting cash, weapons seized in drug raid

Police said they expected to finish their tally today of the cash, weapons and drugs seized over the weekend in the Pimlico section of Northwest Baltimore in a contination of a drug crackdown.

"Operation Northwest" was the latest in a series of high-profile law enforcement actions aimed at widespread drug trafficking.

About 160 officers from the city police department's Violent Crimes Task Force and district-level drug enforcement units participated in sweeps that began at 1 p.m. Saturday south of Pimlico Race Course, Sgt. Ernest Anderson, a Northwestern District shift commander, said yesterday. Officers were armed with 28 search-and-seizure warrants.

The raids occurred in the 5100 block of Pimlico Road, the 5100 block of Reisterstown Road, Woodland Avenue at Park Heights Avenue, and West Belvedere Avenue and Park Heights Avenue.

Police said 19 men were taken into custody, as were several juveniles and women.
