HITS AND MISSES

July 29, 1995|By Jason LaCanfora

In the dugout: Pinch hitter John Kruk was ejected for arguing with plate umpire Brian Onura in the ninth inning over a called strike. Kruk charged out of the dugout after his ejection and had to be restrained by manager Terry Bevington. Ozzie Guillen, the next batter, continued to jaw with Onura, but remained in the game, striking out.

On the field: Chicago leadoff hitter Lance Johnson accounted for nearly half of the White Sox's nine hits last night, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs and a home run in the sixth off Mike Mussina. Johnson also doubled.

In the clubhouse: Rafael Palmeiro on another close victory for the Orioles: "When you jump on a team, you've got to keep on jumping on them or they'll come back like Texas did [Thursday] night," a reference to the Orioles' 2-1 loss.
