White Sox update

The White Sox (35-46) are 7-8 since the All-Star break and trail Cleveland by more than 20 games in their division. Pitching has been Chicago's downfall. The White Sox' team ERA is 5.11 and only Jim Abbott, who was traded yesterday, had more than five wins. However, Alvarez is on a three-game winning streak and is 4-1 with a 2.27 ERA lifetime against the Orioles. Frank Thomas anchors the offense, and is in the top five in home runs (26), batting average (.333) and RBIs (67) in the American League. Third baseman Robin Ventura is the only other Sox player with double-digit home runs, with 15. Outfielder Tim Raines brings an AL-record 38 consecutive stolen-base streak into Camden Yards. The Orioles' Brady Anderson had 36 before being caught earlier this month.
