Woman robbed by man with knife

A 56-year-old Columbia woman was robbed by a man wielding a knife as she sat in her car outside a townhouse and condominium development in Town Center Tuesday afternoon, Howard County police said.

The woman was not injured. Police said a man surprised her about 2 p.m. in the 5400 block of Smooth Meadow Way, threatened her with a knife, grabbed her purse and ran.

The robber was described as a thin black male standing 5 feet, 7 inches tall and wearing a dark baseball hat, a dark T-shirt and long, dark pants, police said.

* Hickory Ridge: 10900 block of Little Patuxent Parkway: A black 1993 Volkswagen Passat with Washington, D.C., tags 617-114 was stolen from the parking lot at Howard Community College Monday, police said.

* Wilde Lake: 5400 block of Trumpeter Road: Officers responding to an alarm at a construction site found locks cut off two trailers Tuesday evening. A fax machine, a battery charger, a drill and two-way radios and chargers had been stolen, police said.
