Minister named by local Church of Religious Science

The Columbia Church of Religious Science at the Hawthorn Community Center, 6175 Sunny Spring, has announced the appointment of the Rev. Nancy Stepp as the new minister. She will assume her duties Sunday.

Ms. Stepp served as staff minister at the Glendale Church of Religious Science in Glendale, Calif.

She has developed seminars on prosperity and creative thinking and will teach religious science classes and science of mind.

College to hold gun control forum

An open community forum, "Issue '95: Gun Control," will be presented from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday at Howard Community College. Registration will be at 9:30 a.m.

Speakers include Lynne A. Battaglia, U.S. attorney for the district of Maryland; Gail Robinson, staff attorney for the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence; Larry Pratt, executive director of Gun Owners of America; Richard Williams, executive director of Marylanders Against Handgun Abuse; Dr. Paul Blackman, research coordinator for the National Rifle Association's Institute of Legislation Action; Susan Glick, a health adviser with Marylanders Against Handgun Abuse; Brian Wilson of WCBM radio; and Brian Cheeks, a special agent with the Baltimore office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

Ms. Battaglia is the keynote speaker and will discuss "Exploring the Second Amendment and Its Role in the Gun Control Debate."

ATF Special Agent Cheeks will hold two sessions on various weapons and will display a variety of handguns, semiautomatic and automatic weapons.

Admission is free, but reservations are required.

The program is sponsored by the college's Summer Honors Program for High School Students.
