Board elects chairman, vice chairwoman

Westminster businessman Michael Mason was elected chairman of the Carroll Community College Board of Trustees. ++ He officially will begin his duties at the board meeting this month.

Janet R. Colburn, adult services specialist of the Carroll County Library, was elected vice chairwoman.

Mr. Mason, a real estate broker specializing in commercial and industrial sales and leasing with O'Conor, Piper and Flynn Realtors, has been associated with the college since 1988. He has been a member of the Carroll Community College Advisory Board and was appointed by the governor as a founding trustee for the college's board of trustees.

Ms. Colburn was appointed in 1990 to the Carroll Community College Advisory Board. In 1993, the governor appointed her as a founding trustee for the college's board of trustees.

Board of education to meet Aug. 9

The Carroll County Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting at 9 a.m. Aug. 9 in the Board of Education offices, Room 271, in the Courthouse Annex Building, 55 North Court St., Westminster.

Stephanie Rooney named to dean's list

Stephanie Rooney of Finksburg is one of 452 students named to the dean's list for the spring semester at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va.

Ms. Rooney is a junior at the college. The dean's list recognizes academic achievement by full-time students who attain a minimum grade point average of 3.5.

Board of Education to hold public hearing

The Board of Education will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 in Room 271 in the Board of Education offices at the Courthouse Annex Building, 55 North Court St., Westminster.

The purpose of the meeting will be to review and approve the proposed fiscal 1997 state and local capital improvement program budget requests. The fiscal 1997 submission will reflect a six-year plan for school construction and renovation and will include requests for other local capital improvement projects.

Community attendance and comments are encouraged.

New Windsor to donate tot lot at school

The town of New Windsor is donating a tot lot at the old New Windsor Middle School. The tot lot will be used by Elmer Wolfe Elementary School students who will be housed at New Windsor while their school is being constructed.

College to hold fall registration

Carroll Community College will have fall registration from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 15 to 17 and Aug. 28 and 29 at 1601 Washington Road, Westminster.
