Students in architecture can receive scholarships

The Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the American Institute of Architect awards scholarships each year to students studying architecture whose primary residence is in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne's, St. Mary's, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester counties.

A $500 scholarship for the 1995-1996 academic year will be based on scholastic ability and the need for financial assistance.

Forums scheduled on planning issues

The General Development Plan Steering Committee and Anne Arundel County Department of Planning and Code Enforcement will conduct public forums on issues and opportunities in the new county development plan.

The forums are scheduled for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Arundel High; Tuesday at Southern High; and Wednesday at Anne Arundel Community College.

Permit required to fish at lake

Patuxent Research Refuge is allowing public fishing for bass, pickerel, sunfish and catfish at the Cash Lake fishing area.

The lake, on Route 197 south of Laurel, will be open to 25 anglers each day from 6 a.m. to sunset. Licensed anglers must obtain a free day permit. Applications must include name, address, phone number and dates for which permits are desired.

Applications should be sent to Fishing Program, Patuxent Research Refuge, 12100 Beech Forest Road, Laurel 20708-4036.

Chamber of Commerce to offer coupon book

The Greater Severna Park Chamber of Commerce is offering an Ocean City Dine and Fun '95 money-saving coupon book.

The book costs $15. Part of the proceeds benefits the chamber.

Scholarship pageant Sept. 13 in Crownsville

The Anne Arundel County Fair will hold its Fair Queen Scholarship Pageant at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at the fairgrounds in Crownsville.

Young women ages 16 to 21 who have lived in the county for at least six months by Aug. 16 and achieved a B average in the most recent reporting period are invited to participate.

The registration deadline is Aug. 16, and registration forms can be received by calling 923-2341.

CaRES raising funds for cancer services

The Cancer Resource and Support Center has begun a membership campaign to raise funds for the services it offers to the community.

CaRES provides cancer patients, their families and friends with a community center where they can receive free support and services.

The center is at 8055 Ritchie Highway in Patriots Plaza in Pasadena.
