Arundel grad Abrams quits at Maryland

July 21, 1995|By From Staff Reports

Richard Abrams, a defensive lineman from Arundel, has left the Maryland football team. Abrams, who has three years of eligibility remaining, appeared in eight games as a true freshman last fall, and had five tackles. He is reportedly seeking a transfer to a Division I-AA school.

Abrams' departure leaves Troy Fowlkes as the only scholarship player from the Baltimore area on the Terps.

Fowlkes, a linebacker from North County, was a redshirt last season, when he was affected by an asthma-like ailment. He participated in spring practice, but withdrew from the university after the spring semester. He's currently in summer school, and said he plans to report with the other veterans Aug. 10.
