Jane Mason and Jane Fitzgerald, multiple champions from different eras, worked their way through two rounds yesterday and will meet this morning for the 74th annual Women's Amateur championship of the Maryland State Golf Association at the Suburban Club.

Mason, at 56 the oldest finalist in this event in more than 30 years, and a winner in 1965 and 1974, parred the first extra hole to edge Bonnie Fry, 1 up, in the morning, then beat defending champion Andrea Kraus in the afternoon, 3 and 1.

Fitzgerald, 33, has three titles in the last six years. This time, she put out Ronda Henderson in the morning, 4 and 3, then rallied from 2-down with some precise shotmaking to defeat Joan Peddicord, 5 and 3.

"A miracle," Mason, from Nassawango Country Club in Snow Hill, said of her afternoon victory. "I thought I'd get slaughtered."
