Active in church

Isabel R. Engle, who was active in church work, died Monday at Memorial Hospital in Easton after a stroke. She was 92 and had lived in Oxford since 1960.

She taught Sunday school and was a member of United Methodist Women at the Oxford United Methodist Church. While living in Annapolis from 1944 until 1960, she taught Sunday school at the College Avenue Baptist Church.

The former Isabel Reed was a native of Newark, N.J., and a 1929 graduate of the Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing in Montclair, N.J., where she worked as a nurse.

In 1938, she married James Bennett Engle, who died in 1981.

Services for Mrs. Engle were set for 4 p.m. today at the Oxford United Methodist Church. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy E. Howard of Royal Oak and Susan I. Benson of Easton; and two grandchildren.

Eva M. Jones, 74, who had been a salesclerk in several Baltimore stores while living here from 1947 until 1968, died Friday of cancer at a hospital in Waynesboro, Pa., where she resided.

Graveside services for the former Eva M. Cordell, a native of Zullinger, Pa., were to be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Garden of Faith Memorial Garden, Trumps Mill Road and Lillian Holt Drive in the Overlea area. A Mass of Christian burial was offered yesterday.

She is survived by her husband, Edward C. Jones; three daughters, Karen S. Faulls of Abingdon, Charlene E. Haupt of Bel Air and Kathleen S. Lumsden of Baltimore; a son, Charles E. Jones of Abingdon; two brothers, Donald Cordell of York, Pa., and William Cordell of Waynesboro; a sister, Crena Anderson of Halfway; 11 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
