Hired man installing roof molding falls to his death

A 51-year-old Rockville man who was hired to help a Mount Airy homeowner with a home improvement project died Sunday after falling 30 feet from a scaffold onto concrete, county police said.

Alejandro Garcia Garcia of the 500 block of First St. was pronounced dead at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore two hours after the accident in the 500 block of Beetz Road, said Sgt. Steve Keller, a county police spokesman.

He suffered severe head injuries in the fall, rescue officials said.

Mr. Garcia, who had been hired part time, and the homeowner were installing molding on the edge of the home's roof about 1:30 p.m. when Mr. Garcia fell, police said.

Sergeant Keller said police turned the investigation over to the Maryland Occupational Safety and Health agency.

Police did not release the homeowner's name pending the investigation.
