Hits And Misses

July 18, 1995|By Buster Olney

On the field: Texas scored one run in the second, and had runners at first and third and two outs, when Rangers first baseman Will Clark laced a line drive to left-center field. Orioles left fielder Brady Anderson raced into the gap and reached up to backhand the ball, taking a double away from Clark and preventing Texas from blowing out Kevin Brown early.

In the dugout: Bret Barberie started in place of Manny Alexander at second base, as Orioles manager Phil Regan tried to take advantage of Barberie's strong history against Bob Tewksbury. Barberie batted regularly against Tewksbury in the NL, going 7-for-19 (.368) with three walks.

In the clubhouse: "I still think about it, but it doesn't bother me as much. Baltimore has really helped in putting this all behind me." -- Orioles first baseman Rafael Palmeiro, on his angry departure from the Rangers after the '93 season
