Six taken to hospitals after collision in Lothian

A Calvert County man and a Tracys Landing couple and their three children were hospitalized Sunday evening after a two-vehicle collision in Lothian, county police said.

Walter Alan Moreland, 35, of the 18000 block of Patuxent Ave. in Benedict was in critical but stable condition last night at the Prince George's Medical Center. At the same hospital are Joseph Christopher Creek, 33, of the 200 block of Deale Road and Jeraline Coates, 30, of the same address. Mr. Creek is in stable condition and Ms. Coates is in good condition, hospital officials said.

The three children -- Mornay and Dantray Creek, both 2, and Jamar Coates, 11, are all in stable condition at Calvert Memorial Hospital.

The accident occurred about 6:40 p.m. when Mr. Moreland, driving his 1984 Chevrolet Camaro south on Solomons Island Road made a left turn onto Bay Front Road. Mr. Creek, driving his 1970 Ford pickup truck north on Solomons Island Road, crashed into the passenger side of the Chevrolet, police said. The truck spun and rolled over on its roof. The Chevrolet into a curb.

Police said Mr. Moreland failed to yield the right of way.

Two arrests made in barricade incidents

County police arrested two men in separate barricade incidents during the weekend, officials said.

The first incident occurred about 3:30 p.m. Friday when police said a man threatened to kill his wife and fired two shots from a Mossberg 20-gauge shotgun. He surrendered at his home in the 100 block of Oak Drive in Severn Grove.

Ralph Willis Stevens, 65, was charged with assault with intent to murder and attempted first-degree murder.

The second incident occurred Saturday about 11:55 p.m. in the 4900 block of Elm St. in Avalon Shores.

Gary Curtis Brown, 32, who was wanted by state police for burglary, escape, assault and destruction of property, surrendered in his home to county and state police after a three-hour standoff.

Mayo man charged in slashing incidente

A Mayo man was arrested Sunday and charged with slashing a man and pointing a knife at his girlfriend, county police said.

Kathy Ostiguy, 30, of the 3900 block of Ramsey Drive in Mayo told her boyfriend that she was going to get a ride with a friend, Douglas James Engel of Pasadena, police said.

Shortly after midnight, Ms. Ostiguy's boyfriend pointed a 10-inch butcher knife at her and said he would kill her and Mr. Engel, police said. When Mr. Engel arrived, the boyfriend slashed him across the face, according to police.

Henry Allison Smart Jr., 36, who lives at the same address as Ms. Ramsey, was charged with assault and battery, police said.
