APL announces staff appointments

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory near Columbia has announced new appointments to its principal professional and senior staffs.

The laboratory's principal professional staff designation is reserved for staff members who exhibit the highest professional stature and individual achievement for their work.

Charles Anderson and C. Thompson Pardoe, both of Woodbine, were named to the principal professional staff.

Senior staff appointments, made in recognition of sustained accomplishments in the staff member's professional field, went to Marshal Jose of Manchester and Frank Slujtner of Sykesville.

Robert Miles receives award

Robert Miles, an accountant in the county's Office of the Comptroller, received an Outstanding Achievement Award presented by the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants. The award was presented at New CPA Night on May 9 at the Lord Baltimore Hotel in Baltimore.

Mr. Miles passed the November 1994 Maryland CPA exam with one of the top-10 scores in the state and one of the top-100 scores in the country. He has been employed by Carroll County government since August 1993 and has held his current postion with the comptroller's office since 1994.

In addition to his work for the county, Mr. Miles has had extensive experience in tax preparation and tax research. Frances Gander was appointed to the advisory board of the United States of America Wushu-Kungfu Federation.

Ms. Gander teaches Tai Chi and Chi Kubg at Three Treasures Health Services in Sykesville. She also provides acupuncture treatment at that location. She has studied Chinese internal arts for 19 years.

The appointment was announced by the organization's president, Anthony Goh. The federation is presenting the World Wushu Championships Aug. 19-22 at the Baltimore Arena.

This will be the first time this international event will be held outside of Asia.

Darin Kunert gets gold level status

Darin Kunert, service adviser for Northwest Honda in Owings Mills, has achieved repeat gold level status from American Honda Motors.

He received the gold level status after demonstrating a high performance and product knowledge of Honda vehicles.

Paul, Mary Steger are top selling agents

At Long and Foster's Hampstead office, the top selling agents for June were Paul and Mary Steger.

Business After Hours meeting Tuesday
