Motorist from Columbia arrested on drug charges

July 12, 1995

County police arrested a Columbia man on drug charges Sunday night after they stopped him in Pumphrey for speeding and found marijuana in his car, officials said.

Northern District Officer David K. Frendlich spotted a 1986 Chevrolet Cavalier speeding south on Belle Grove Road about 11:45 p.m. He paced the car and stopped it after the driver made a left turn at School Lane near Berlin Avenue.

The officer checked the man's driver's license through a police computer, found he was wanted for failing to obey a court order and arrested him. Officer Frendlich searched the car and found a black bag on the rear floor that contained a plastic bag filled with a substance that field tested positive as marijuana and 12 empty plastic bags, police said.

Lawrence Antonio Middleton, 32, of the 10000 block of Faulkner Ridge Road was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
