Two Baltimore students win NAACP medals

MINNEAPOLIS -- Two students from the Baltimore School for the Arts won medals yesterday in the NAACP's "Olympics of the Mind."

Chris Lowder, 18, won the gold medal in sculpture for his piece "Legacy."

Warren E. Wolf Jr., 15, won a bronze medal in contemporary instrumental music for his performance on the vibes of Charlie Park- er's "Ornithology."

More than 1,000 winners of local competitions across the nation -- including 10 from Baltimore -- vied for medals in 24 categories of science, humanities and the arts.

The NAACP has conducted the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics (ACT-SO) since 1977.
