Road connector ramp to be finished soon

July 05, 1995

Construction of a new connector ramp to alleviate the volume of traffic on Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard through Ferndale is expected to be completed by the end of July, said State Highway Administration officials.

The new ramp on the northbound Harbor Tunnel (I-895) will allow northbound I-97 traffic access to the westbound I-695 exit to Baltimore-Annapolis Boulevard (Route 648), said Michael W. Ulrich, an SHA traffic engineer.

The ramp is part of a $14.2 million project to widen I-97, said Chuck Brown, an SHA spokesman.

The new ramp will help keep local traffic going to Ferndale, Linthicum and Brooklyn Park separate from the through traffic, said state Sen. Philip C. Jimeno, who, with then-Sen. Michael J. Wagner, worked on the project for about three years.

"The people in Ferndale were complaining about the traffic and the other people [drivers], were complaining about the delays," said Mr. Jimeno, a Brooklyn Park Democrat who represents the area.
