County police issued a warrant for a Prince George's County man Wednesday charging him with battering his girlfriend as the two rode in his car, officials said.

Farrah Jeane Mohler, 17, of Edgewater, told police her boyfriend picked her up in his Audi about 3 p.m. Wednesday and drove her toward his home in Clinton. As they drove, he punched her several times in the head and body and then took her home. When they arrived at her home, he struck her again before leaving about 5:45 p.m., police said.

Ms. Mohler was treated at Anne Arundel Medical Center for cuts and bruises as well as neck and back injuries, police and hospital officials said.

Southern District Officer Thomas McFarland said the woman was so upset when she gave him the state ment that he could not get detailed information about the suspect's car, police said.

Officer McFarland went to the District Court commissioner and got a warrant charging Michael Eugene Daugherty, 25, of the 10000 block of Thrift Road, with battery, police said.

Police charge couple with stealing tag

County police arrested a Shady Side couple Wednesday morning and charged them with stealing a license tag from the man's estranged wife, officials said.

The couple went to a house in the 100 block of Mayo Road shortly after midnight, officials said. Garry Calvin Scruggs, 27, who lives in the house with Ronald Clarke Beiler, 40, answered the door. The woman, posing as a police detective, told him she was there to see Sharon B. Dobbs, 40, who was visiting, police said.

When Mr. Scruggs asked to see the woman's identification, she flashed open her wallet and threat ened to charge him with obstructing justice. The woman then walked over to Ms. Dobbs 1994 Mazda, removed the rear tag and drove off in a Ford Bronco with a man, police said.

Mr. Beiler told police he came out of his house and tried to stop the pair from driving away, but the woman tried to run him over. Police -- who already had been called -- stopped the Bronco after Mr. Scruggs pointed it out, and Southern District Officer Richard Hicks arrested the man and woman, the police report said.

Dana Regan Dobbs, 38, Ms. Dobbs' estranged husband, of the 1100 block of Cedar Ave., and Cheryl Lynn Adkins, 26, of the 4900 block of Dogwood St., were charged with burglary, misdemeanor theft and assault. Ms. Adkins was also cited for reckless driving and tampering with a vehicle, police said.
