Book depository fire damages library branch

Police and fire officials are investigating a weekend fire at the Eldersburg branch of the Carroll County Public Library that caused minor damage after fireworks were thrown into the night book depository.

The state fire marshal's office said fireworks were ignited and thrown into the book depository of the Hemlock Drive building between 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday. Damage, estimated at about $100, was limited to a closet inside the library at 6400 Hemlock Drive West.

A library employee noticed the damage Saturday morning.

FIRE

* Eldersburg: Sykesville responded to wires on fire in the 5900 block of Mineral Hill Road at 9:28 p.m. Friday. Units were out for 50 minutes.

* Ellicott City: Sykesville assisted Howard County at a house fire on Boones Lane at 4:34 p.m. Saturday. Units were out for 30 minutes.

Sykesville assisted Howard County at a house fire on Carillon Drive at 5:08 p.m. Saturday. Units were out for 50 minutes.

* West Friendship: Sykesville assisted Howard County at a house fire on Wellworth Way at 4:26 p.m. Saturday. Units were out for seven minutes.
