A newly established partnership between the nonprofit Columbia Association and the Columbia Medical Plan will let 150 Howard County employers buy low-cost packages for health education programs and health and fitness memberships.

The partnership, announced yesterday, will be made available to county employers with 50 or more workers.

The packages offer health education programs on such topics as infant care, emotional well-being and smoking cessation to any employer who also takes part in CA's fitness and health clubs.

Columbia Medical Plan will continue to offer its health education programs to employers separately.

"This makes it inexpensive for employers to give their employees a leg up on the health and fitness programs," said Patti Shank, manager of health education for Columbia Medical Plan.

"It's good for everybody."

The prices of each package will vary according to the size of the employer, said Wendy Bynion, spokeswoman for the medical plan.

To register or receive information regarding the health programs, call the Columbia Medical Plan at (410) 880-6516.

For participation in the Columbia Association's programs, call (410) 715-3000.
