June 26, 1995

John Stewart Morton Jr., was in serious, stable condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center last night after his station wagon was rear-ended by a pickup truck near his Green Spring Valley home, Baltimore County police said.

Robert L. Klinefelter, 47, was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident and driving on a suspended license. Both are residents of Golf Course Road, Owings Mills.

Mr. Morton, 76, was driving his 1992 Volkswagen about 4 p.m. on Golf Course Road when the truck rammed it from behind and into a tree, police said. Mr. Morton's wife, Lettice, 76, the only passenger, was unhurt, police said.

Mr. Klinefelter was being held last night at the Garrison precinct.
