With an eye toward the July 4 weekend, the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company is having a safety awareness open house for families from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The volunteers will run safety awareness games for children, demonstrate and explain the different kinds of fire extinguishers and show a fireworks safety film. Visitors also will be able to choose from a number of safety pamphlets and other handouts.

Jim Meekins, volunteer chief, is recommending that parents and children view the fireworks film.

"The film shows how dangerous fireworks are," he said.

Fire trucks and other pieces of equipment will be on display and the fire hall will be open for tours.

The fire hall is on Mountain Road. For more information, call 255-2401.
