Orioles -- Signed C Mike Knapp to a minor-league contract. Optioned C Kris Gresham from Triple-A Rochester to Single-A High Desert.

California Angels -- Placed DH Chili Davis on the 15-day DL with a strained left hamstring. Activated C Greg Myers from the DL.

Colorado Rockies -- Announced P Omar Olivares has accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Houston Astros -- Optioned P Doug Brocail to Triple-A Tucson.

Milwaukee Brewers -- Traded OF Derrick May to the Houston Astros for a player to be named.

Pittsburgh Pirates -- Sent P Rick White to Triple-A Calgary. Called up P John Ericks from Calgary.

San Diego Padres -- Optioned P Jeff Tabaka to Triple-A Las Vegas. Purchased the contract of P Glenn Dishman from Las Vegas.

Seattle Mariners -- Signed P Martin Weymouth, P Andy Collett and SS Ramon Vazquez.

Texas Rangers -- Signed P Ted Silva.

Toronto Blue Jays -- Signed C Craig Wilson and assigned him to rookie-league Medicine Hat.

Basketball

NBA -- Fined the Chicago Bulls $100,000 for allowing Michael Jordan to wear No. 23 during the playoffs.

College

Mid-American Conference -- Announced Northern Illinois will join, effective for the 1997-98 academic year.

Benedict -- Named Harold Jackson football coach and Julius Adams defensive coordinator.

Notre Dame -- Announced sophomore QB Gus Ornstein will transfer to Michigan State.

Hockey

NHL -- Announced the Board of Governors has approved the sale of the Quebec Nordiques to COMSAT Entertainment Group and the relocation of the franchise to Denver, effective with the 1995-96 season. Elected Harley Hotchkiss chairman of the Board of Governors.

Football

Toronto Argonauts (CFL) -- Acquired CB Frank Adams from the B.C. Lions for relinquishing a future considerations agreement.

Olympics

USA Basketball -- Named Bobby Cremins, Clem Haskins and Jerry Sloan assistant basketball coaches for the men's 1996 Olympic basketball team.

Soccer

Pittsburgh Stingers (Continental Indoor Soccer League) -- Acquired former Blast and Spirit D Tim Wittman from the Seattle SeaDogs for D Troy Fabiano, their first choice in the 1995 supplemental draft and their first-and second-round choices in the 1996 draft.
