About the fourth or fifth week of summer vacation, boredom sets in for my children. That's when I need a few tricks up my sleeve.
I have found that a good Vacation Bible School program is worth its weight in gold. The programs offer children the chance to meet new friends, make crafts, participate in recreational activities and even learn a lesson or two.
St. Stephen's Reformed Episcopal Church on Liberty Road will hold its Bible school from 9:30 a.m. to noon Monday through June 30. Children who will be entering kindergarten through sixth grade may participate in a free sports theme program called "God's Champions." Register by calling 795-9406.
The Bible school at Oakland United Methodist Church on Mineral Hill Road is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to noon July 10 to 14 for children from age 3 through seventh grade. The program, "Turn-About Paul," is free, but an offering will be collected for the Oklahoma City bombing victims. Information and registration: 795-7340 or 795-2127.
Faith Lutheran Church on Liberty Road also will have its Bible school the week of July 10 to 14. For more information on this evening program, call the church office at 795-8082.
"Discovering Jesus in the Bible" will be the theme for this year's Bible school program at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. July 17 to 21. Children age 4 through sixth grade can participate in this detective-based adventure with stories and crafts. Registration forms are available in the narthex of the church or by calling 795-6333.
An adventure park setting will highlight "The Awesome Adventure" theme of the Bible school at Wesley-Freedom United Methodist Church from July 24 to 28. The program will be from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and will accommodate children who are entering kindergarten through fifth grade. A fee of $5 per child ($10 per family maximum) is charged. The registration deadline is June 30. Call the church office at 795-2257 for information.
