Arnold man finds bomblet in basement

An Arnold man who thought he had disposed of a bomblet from a fragmentation bomb eight years ago was shocked to find it Saturday afternoon -- packed in a box in his basement.

William Adam Smith, 46, of the 200 block of Kings College Court was packing to move when he found the bomblet shortly after 4 p.m. He contacted members of Fort Meade's bomb disposal unit, who, assisted by county and state fire marshals, took it to a remote field at Anne Arundel Community College and detonated it, police said.

Mr. Smith said someone gave him the bomb when he was a cadet at the Air Force Academy in 1965.

Police charge man with arson in porch fire

A Millersville man was charged with arson Sunday night after a fire was set on the porch of a house in the 8200 block of Brookwood Road, county police said.

Police went to the house about 8 p.m. to investigate a report that the fire had been deliberately set.

A man had been involved earlier in a fight with a man who rents the house and had threatened to burn the house down, police said. Residents quickly extinguished the fire, which caused little damage.

Phillip John Borczon, 23, of the 8300 block of Brookwood Road, was charged with first-degree arson, police said.
