Revised reproductions

What Timm Rittler enjoys most about his work is the research that goes into each piece he crafts. He and his wife Maggie run a reproduction furniture company, Sherwood Cabinet and Furnituremaker, from their Cockeysville home. Mr. Rittler specializes in reproductions of 18th-century American furniture revised to suit a client's particular needs. All the work is done by him, from the design on paper to the assembly to detailed carvings to the appropriate finish. Call (410) 683-4064 for more information.

Remodeler honored

Each year Remodeling singles out 50 top remodelers in the country for the magazine's "Top 50 Hall of Fame." This year's group, featured in the May issue, included Stu Dettelbach of Pikesville, whose company, SD Kitchens, specializes in kitchen and bath remodeling. Remodeling editor Wendy Jordan says of the companies honored, "They know their strengths, they have a clear understanding of their markets, and they concentrate on matching the two."

Flowers from a catalog

You can shop by catalog for just about anything, so why not fresh flowers? With Calyx & Corolla's catalog you see exactly what you order; most flowers in the book have good-looking containers with them to make life really easy. Long-stemmed roses (or birds of paradise or Oriental lilies with curly willow) are cut and packed the day before the order is due, then shipped overnight by Federal Express. Prices are comparable with a good florist's; the handling charge is $4.95.

Calyx & Corolla also ships plants, dried flowers and wreaths. For a super gift, there's the Year of Plants -- a lush, blooming plant every month. The company even has a number for its "Plant Doctor," who'll discuss the care and history of your purchases. Call (800) 800-7788 for a copy of the catalog.
