Truck driver charged after Scaggsville accident

June 15, 1995

A truck driver who said brake failure caused his vehicle to collide with a car in Scaggsville yesterday was charged with running a red light, Howard County police said.

The man, whose name was not available for release yesterday, was not injured, but police say the driver of the Mazda the truck hit was flown by a state police helicopter to Suburban Hospital in Montgomery County for chest and back injuries.

According to police, the man in the commercial truck was driving south on U.S. 29 when he struck the Mazda heading east on Johns Hopkins Road.

The truck driver told police that problems with his brakes prevented him from stopping for the red signal, but a traffic officer inspected the vehicle and found no malfunction, said Howard police Cpl. Fred Von Briesen.
