Dunn appointed new president at Mercantile

Mercantile Bankshares Corp. yesterday appointed Edward K. Dunn Jr. president of Mercantile-Safe Deposit & Trust Co., effective June 30.

Mr. Dunn, 59, succeeds Douglas W. Dodge, 62, who will retire on that date after more than 25 years with the bank. Mr. Dunn, who joined Mercantile in 1988, will retain his current positions as president of the bank holding company and chief operating officer of Mercantile-Safe Deposit & Trust.

H. Furlong Baldwin, Mercantile's chairman and chief executive, also announced the election of Martin L. Grass to the company's board of directors. Mr. Grass is chairman and chief executive of Camp Hill, Pa.-based Rite Aid Corp.

At the same time, Mercantile's board approved a regular 20-cents-per-share dividend on its common stock, payable June 30 to holders of record on June 23.
