Beth Shalom will dedicate new building

Beth Shalom Congregation will hold a dedication ceremony for the opening of its new building at 1 p.m. Sunday at 8070 Guilford Road in Columbia.

The ceremony will feature presentations by U.S. Sen. Paul S. Sarbanes, Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin and Howard County Executive Charles I. Ecker.

Beth Shalom's Rabbi Kenneth Cohen and Cantor Anita Schubert also will participate.

* Long Reach: 6400 block of Dry Barley Lane: Someone who tried to steal a 1992 Eagle Talon broke a screwdriver in its ignition and took the car's stereo before fleeing Saturday morning, police said.

* Owen Brown: 6300 block of Red Haven Road: Someone entered a vacant townhouse and stole a dryer between Friday and Sunday, police said.

9200 block of Crazy Quilt Court: A TV, a VCR and a wallet were stolen after someone broke a home's window with a rock and entered late Sunday or early yesterday, police said.
