June 07, 1995|By Steven Kivinski

PERFORMER OF THE YEAR

* Kristen Nicolini, Annapolis, senior -- Clearly the most dominant runner in Anne Arundel County, Nicolini closed out a spectacular high school running career by winning state titles in the 400, 800 and 1,600 meters. Her time of 4 minutes, 46.2 seconds in the 1,600 set a state record for all classifications.

She set county records in the 800 and 1,600 and her time of 2:10.1 in the 800 was the second fastest in the nation among high school runners.

At regionals, Nicolini, who is headed for Auburn on a full track and field scholarship, won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 and was part of the Panthers' runner-up 1,600 relay team.

"I see her as an Olympian in the near future," said Annapolis coach Brian Funk. "I'm glad I had a chance to help prepare her for the next level and I'm confident she is ready to tackle any obstacles."
