A 14-year-old Odenton girl was shot in the head Saturday night at a party in Glen Burnie, and Anne Arundel County police still were looking for the weapon yesterday.

The girl, whose name was not released, was in critical condition last night at North Arundel Hospital, said Sgt. Jeffrey A. Kelly, a police spokesman.

No one has been charged in the shooting, and police said the investigation was continuing, Sergeant Kelly said.

County paramedics found the girl with one gunshot wound in her head at an apartment in the 7700 block of Oakwood Road about 11:25 p.m. Saturday.

Two adults who live in the apartment and eight juveniles -- including the victim -- were in the apartment at the time.

Earlier that night, the girl went into a bedroom with two boys, whose names and ages were not given by police. One of the boys brought a snub-nosed, .38-caliber handgun to the party and showed it to the girl and the other boy. He apparently unloaded and then reloaded the gun, the sergeant said.

Under circumstances still unclear to police last night, one shot was fired from the gun, hitting the girl, Sergeant Kelly said.

Police asked anyone with information about the shooting and the whereabouts of the gun to call detectives at 222-3450.
