Cockpit in Court sets summer lineup

Cockpit in Court -- the summer theater at Essex Community College, 7201 Rossville Blvd. -- opens its 23rd season Friday with three shows. "42nd Street," the backstage musical based on the movie of the same name, will run on the Mainstage at 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 7 p.m. June 25, with matinees at 2 p.m. Sundays, through June 25. Tickets are $13. Opening in the Upstairs Cabaret is Paul Osborn's touching comedy about four sisters, "Morning's at Seven," which has the same curtain times, except there is no evening performance June 25. Tickets are $10. The third opening is this year's outdoor Courtyard production -- Robert Bolt's drama about Sir Thomas More, "A Man for All Seasons." Show times are 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 7 p.m. Sundays, through June 18. Tickets are $10.

Here's the rest of the Cockpit season: "Robin Hood" (Young People's Theatre in the Administration Building lecture hall), July 6-16; "Kismet" (Mainstage), July 21-Aug. 6; and "The Foreigner" (Upstairs Cabaret), July 21- Aug. 6. For more information, call (410) 780-6369.

@ Pamela Frank is one of our best young violinists, and this week -- Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:15 and Sunday at 3 p.m. -- she will perform the Beethoven Concerto, the greatest of all violin concertos, with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in Meyerhoff Hall. Guest conductor Michael Stern will also conduct the orchestra in Rossini's overture to "The Italian Girl in Algiers" and Mendelssohn's "Scottish Symphony." Call (410) 783-8000.

Stephen Wigler The Spotlighters Theatre, 817 St. Paul St., concludes its season with a double bill of Charles Busch comedies opening Friday. "Vampire Lesbians of Sodom," a campy spoof of B-movies, and "Sleeping Beauty or Coma," an off-beat fairy tale, will be directed by Terry J. Long. The cast of this Baltimore premiere production features David Flury, Brian Jacobs, David Price and Michael Kliewer.

Curtain times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Sundays, through July 2. Tickets are $8 and $9. For further information, call (410) 752-1225.
