"Coach just didn't want us to do anything crazy," said Dougherty, who had allowed a one-on-one goal to Riordan in the closing seconds that gave Hopkins a 16-15 win earlier this season. "Allowing that goal was the worst feeling in the world, but today I guess I got my revenge."

"I've been doing this for a long time, and I've had a lot of highs and a lot of lows, but this was one of the greatest performances I've ever seen in every phase of the game," said Edell, Maryland's coach since 1984. "I'm going to enjoy this one."
