Two women were flown to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and their husbands were admitted to Carroll County General Hospital after the car they were in collided with a school bus on Liberty Road in Winfield early Monday.
Mary Grace Shriver, 62, of the 2800 block of Bird View Road near Bird Hill was in critical condition, and Anna Shriver, 59, of Essex was in serious condition yesterday afternoon, a trauma center spokeswoman said. Both were taken to the center in MedEvac helicopters after rescue crews extricated them.
The driver of the car, Ronald Leo Shriver, 58, of Bird View Road was in serious and stable condition, and Harold Lloyd Shriver, 59, of Essex was in good condition yesterday, a spokeswoman at Carroll County General said.
State police said Ronald Shriver was driving west on Route 26 near South Carroll High and that his car hit the door of the bus as it made a left turn in front of him.
Officers said the bus, carrying nine students, was driven by Barbara Sue Conaway, 37, of Mount Airy. She was not injured.
Investigators said the bus driver told them she did not see the auto as she turned onto Old West Liberty Road in front of the school.
She was charged with failure to grant right of way, police said.
None of the students was injured in the 7:35 a.m. collision.
