For the second year in a row, Anne Arundel Community College's golf team won the Region XX Division III championship. But it took the biggest comeback in coach Cal Peterson's 25 seasons to achieve this one.

The Pioneers were 11 strokes down going into yesterday's final round, but rallied for a three-stroke win over Montgomery-Rockville. They advance to the nationals at Greensboro, N.C.

"I'm amazed. I'm extremely pleased, both with the players and the outcome," Peterson said.

The comeback was led by Arundel High School graduate Kris Niemi, who shot a 79 and 75 to emerge as the top medalist in both Division II and Division III. Matt Hoffman was the No. 4 medalist in Division III.
