Two boys waved a cap gun that looked like a pistol at eight elementary school students in Eldersburg Thursday, causing the students to flee into Piney Ridge Elementary School, state police reported.

Troopers said two 14-year-old boys were arrested and charged with assault.

Investigators said the two teen-agers were walking past the school about 4 p.m. on the way to buy caps for the gun and pointed the weapon at the 9- and 10-year-old children. The students ran into the school and told a teacher.

Police said one of the youths was arrested when he returned to the school grounds. The other was brought to the state police barracks in Westminster by his parents. Neither boy is a student at the elementary school.

Tfc. Michael Duers said the youths were charged with eight counts each of assault and that the cases would be sent to the Carroll County Department of Juvenile Services.
