Westminster police seek stolen hydrant

A Westminster city employee told police that someone stole a fire hydrant Thursday from Hook and Gist roads.

Investigators said the hydrant apparently was struck by a vehicle with enough force to break it, and the thief knew how to shut off the water in the pipe. Police said the pipe was not damaged.

The hydrant was valued at $600.

Police have no suspects, but are searching for the 2-foot-high, orange cast-iron hydrant.
