No. 3 Va. routs UMBC, 26-9

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Midfielders Greg Traynor and David Jones scored four goals each to power No. 3 Virginia past UMBC, 26-9, yesterday.

Doug Knight scored three goals for the Cavaliers (11-2) and finished the regular season with 45, breaking Kevin Pehlke's 1991 school record of 44.

The Retrievers (4-8) scored three straight goals over a four-minute span of the first and second quarters to pull within 7-4 before Virginia scored the next 11.

6* Chris Lloyd led UMBC with three goals.
