Free rides in the Re/Max Hot Air Balloon and hot dogs courtesy of Columbia Gas Co. will be part of the grand opening S&A Custom Built Homes is holding Saturday and Sunday, May 6 and 7, at the Appler Development in Littlestown, Pa., about 30 miles north of Baltimore.

Finished models of the Sheridan, Sherman and Meade will be open for viewing from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. S&A Custom Built Homes is also building six other homes in the community.

A swimming pool, walking and hiking trails and a day-care center will be built in Appler Development, which will contain 300 homes when completed in five years.

Public water and sewer and gas heat, cooking and hot water are available for all homes. Heat pumps and electric ranges are optional. Other standard features include tilt windows, six-panel Colonial interior doors and a one-year warranty.

The Sheridan is a 1,200-square-foot rancher with a starting price of $122,000. A covered porch leads to the foyer, with a coat closet and a door to the two-car garage. To the left of the entrance, there is a 9-by-10-foot dining room with bay windows and an 8-by-11-foot kitchen.

There is also a 16-by-13-foot living room, a master suite with a 12-by-13-foot bedroom, full bath and walk-in closet, two additional bedrooms and a full hall bath.

The Sherman, a Cape Cod, costs $122,500 for 1,340 square feet. The first-floor master suite has a 15-by-11-foot bedroom, walk-in closet and full bath. A single-car garage, 12-by-15-foot living room, 12-by-9-foot dining room, 9-by-8-foot kitchen, coat closet and powder room complete the first floor.

Two bedrooms with walk-in closets and a full bath occupy the second floor.

With 1,620 feet, the Meade is the largest home in the Pennsylvania community. It has a base price of $124,500.

A 12-by-13-foot living room, foyer with coat closet, powder and laundry rooms and a single-car garage occupy the front of the Meade. Across the rear there is an 11-by-11-foot dining room, 10-by-11-foot kitchen and 17-by-11-foot family room.

On the second floor the master suite has a 12-by-13-foot bedroom, walk-in closet and full bath with linen closet. Two additional bedrooms and a full hall bath complete this level.

The smallest and least expensive home being built at Appler is the Farnsworth, a two-story Colonial with 1,250 square feet and a beginning price of $104,900. It has a living room, dining room, kitchen and powder room on the entry level. On the second floor there are three bedrooms and a full bath.

1. The grand opening of Cascades Overlook Mid-Rise apartments in Owings Mills will take place from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, May 6 and 7 and May 13 and 14, at 4604 Cascade Mills Drive.

Cascades Overlook Mid-Rise is a six-story, 50-unit apartment building built by David S. Brown Enterprises, builder and manager of residential and commercial properties in the Baltimore area. Another 50 apartments will be built in the second building.

Within the Georgian-styled brick building apartment shoppers will find a furnished two-story lobby, two elevators, one one-bedroom model and four two-bedroom units. Each apartment comes with a ceramic tile foyer, 8-foot ceilings, gas fireplace, private balcony or patio and laundry room with full-size washer and dryer.

Other amenities include a reserved underground parking space, attended gatehouse, resident-controlled entrances, free cable television, a fitness center, swimming pool and courtesy van with chauffeured service within a 10-mile radius of Cascades.

The one-bedroom D model has a 12-by-19-foot living room, 11-by-12-foot dining room, 12-by-19-foot kitchen, 12-by-9-foot breakfast/family room, 11-by-18-foot bedroom with walk-in closet, full bath and laundry room. With 1,125 square feet of living space it rents for $850 to $975 per month.

With 1,480 square feet, the two-bedroom B model rents for $1,000 to $1,125 a month. There is a 13-by-18-foot living room, 11-by-12-foot dining room, 12-by-9-foot kitchen, 12-by-9-foot breakfast/family room and 7-by-7-foot laundry room.

The master suite includes a 12-by-19-foot bedroom, 7-by-7-foot walk-in closet and a full shower bath. The second bedroom is 12-by-15 feet. The full hall bath has a tub with shower.

To visit Cascades Overlook Mid-Rise, take I-695 to I-795 (Northwest Expressway) to Owings Mills Boulevard (Exit 4) West to a right on Lakeside Boulevard and continue one-half mile to the rental office at 4604 Cascade Mills Drive.
