Body identified as man who leaped from bridge

April 26, 1995

The body of a man found near Kent Island Sunday morning has been identified as that of one of three men who jumped from the Bay Bridge last month.

The state medical examiner's office said dental records identified the man as Robert G. Gates Jr., 36, of Pasadena, who threw himself from the Bay Bridge on March 26.

His body was found by a resident on the shoreline south of Kent Island. He was the third of three apparent suicides last month from the bridge. The body of the first man was found April 18 just south of U.S. 50 on the Western Shore. The body of the second apparent suicide, a Columbia man, has not been recovered.

$500 reward offered for tips about vandals

Saybrooke by the Lake Community Association is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for vandalism at the community entrance.

Danny L. Floyd, a community association board member, said there have been at least five incidents of vandalism involving property near Pond Ridge and Forest Glen drives, the community entrance, since September.

The light fixtures on a brick wall were smashed, and gazebo windows were broken and shot out with a pellet gun.

Anyone with information on the vandalism should call Officer Jim Meyer at the Eastern District Police station, 222-6145.
