Volunteers are needed to do stream surveys

Volunteers are being recruited to conduct stream surveys Saturday of tributaries that drain into Marley Creek.

Information will be used by county officials to help make decisions on waterway projects. The results also will be used for planning volunteer activities aimed at cleaning and protecting the waterways.

The day will begin with a workshop at the North County library at 9 a.m., followed by the field work until 3 p.m.

1st National robbed of undisclosed sum

A man who implied he had a gun robbed a First National Bank branch Monday afternoon and escaped with an undisclosed amount of money, county police said.

The robber walked into the bank, in the 7500 block of Ritchie Highway, about 1:50 p.m. and handed the teller a note. The teller gave the man the money, and he ran out the door toward the back of the bank.
