Thief drops case of beer while fleeing from store

A beer thief fled empty-handed Friday night when he dropped a case of Bud Light while running from the owner of a Brooklyn Park liquor store, county police said.

Mangal Majethia, 52, the owner of Lebowitz Liquor in the 300 block of Doris Ave., said the man came in about 9:35 p.m. and tried to walk out with a $13 case of beer. Mr. Majethia grabbed the case and tried to wrest it away. The thief punched Mr. Majethia in the face, snatched the case and ran from the store, police said.

The man dropped the beer in the 300 block of Doris Ave. and ran north on Townsend Avenue toward Baltimore. Mr. Majethia's cheek was bruised, but he recovered the beer.

The thief was described as a white male about 6 feet 2 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds, with a medium build and long, brown hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, police said.
