Essex ends Herkimer run at 58

Host Essex Community College ended Herkimer County (N.Y.) Community College's 58-game winning streak with a 14-13 overtime victory over the top-ranked Generals yesterday.

Herkimer's streak lasted nearly four seasons. The Generals last lost in the 1991 national junior-college championship game.

Chris Felario scored the winning goal with 14 seconds left in overtime to lift No. 3-ranked Essex (4-2). Rippy Saling led the Knights with five goals.

Herkimer (7-1) has won the past three national junior college championships.

Essex led 5-1 after the first quarter, but the Generals scored five of the next six goals to tie the game at 6 at halftime.
