Pillow talk

When Andrea Chapin and her daughter Amy Chapin Sucoff were planning Amy's wedding four years ago, they wanted to add a little creativity to the end of the ceremony. So, they decided that instead of having the groom step on a wineglass wrapped in a napkin at the end of the Jewish ceremony, they would design a pretty pillow to hold the glass and have him step on that.

(The symbolic breaking of the glass is most popularly interpreted as a reminder of the destruction of the Temple of Jerusalem.)

Ms. Chapin and her daughter's pillow was such a hit that they are now offering it for sale. The satin pillows are embroidered in either silver or gold thread with the Hebrew words mazel tov, the names of the bride and groom and the date of the wedding. They are decorated with piping, ribbons and pearls. The wineglass, wrapped in protective fabric, is sewn securely into the pillow. The price for each pillow is $50 plus shipping. To order, call Step-on-It inc. at (800) 572-3770.

If you suffer intense ear pain during airplane takeoffs and landings, a new, simple over-the-counter product may offer relief. EarPlanes are small, pliable, disposable silicone rubber plugs -- similar to earplugs -- that contain a CeramX filter, designed to allow air entering the ear to adjust naturally to the changing rate of pressure on the eardrum.

Cirrus Air Technologies Inc., the EarPlugs manufacturer, designed the plugs for those who fly with sinus problems, colds and allergies or who have sensitive ears. A pair designed for one round-trip flight retails for about $4 and will be available in Kmart Pharmacies beginning May 1. Four pair packs can be ordered for $19.95, plus $3.50 shipping and handling, by calling (800) EAR-6151.
