Milanovich Mum

April 21, 1995|By From Staff Reports

The gambling investigation of the Maryland football team was started as a result of quarterback Scott Milanovich, the Maryland student newspaper, The Diamondback, reported yesterday.

Unidentified sources told The Diamondback that Milanovich spoke with them about his gambling and that he was interviewed as a part of the investigation.

Earlier this week, Milanovich was asked if he had bet on college athletics.

He answered no, and said that neither he nor any of his teammates would have anything to say about the matter until the investigation is complete.

"As a team, we're going to wait until this thing is over before we say anything," Milanovich said. "When it is done, we'll have something to say. We made a pact as a team that we weren't going to talk."

Athletic director Debbie Yow had no comment on The Diamondback report.
