April 19, 1995

A thief stole a Linthicum man's wallet Monday morning and charged $4,000 worth of merchandise on his credit cards while the man exercised at a Glen Burnie health spa, county police said.

Ernest Ortiz, 37, reported the theft about 1 p.m. He told police he had locked his wallet in a locker of the Holiday Spa in the 6600 block of Ritchie Highway shortly after 10 a.m. Monday. When he returned to his locker at 11 a.m., Mr. Ortiz found a new lock on the locker, police said.

Mr. Ortiz had the manager cut off the new lock and found that his wallet was gone. He left the spa and contacted his credit card company. A representative of the company told him the card had been used four times between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. but could not tell him where it had been used, police said.

Mr. Ortiz drove to the Northern District station to report the theft.
