Leaving terra firma -- Governors' Bay Bridge 10K Run

April 18, 1995|By Michael Reeb | Michael Reeb,Sun Staff Writer

It's a race with footing like few others.

"When the bridge sways, you feel as if your legs are rubbery," the Annapolis Striders' Yvonne Aasen said about the Governor's Bay Bridge 10K Run.

The good news is that the field of 3,500 has not been filled for the 11th annual running, which will take place May 7 at 8 a.m.

The race begins on the Eastern Shore side of the Bay Bridge and proceeds across the older, southern span, which accounts for 4.3 miles of the 6.2-mile course.

"It's officially called the William Preston Lane Memorial Bridge," said Aasen.

All runners will be transported from the Westinghouse Industrial Parking Lot located near Sandy Point State Park to the starting line.

To receive an entry form, mail a stamped, self-addressed envelope to Annapolis Striders, P.O. Box 187, Annapolis, Md. 21404.

Confirmation letters will be sent Monday.

For more information on the race, call the Annapolis Striders Hotline at (410) 268-1165.

The Governor's Bay Bridge Run is not affiliated with the Bay Bridge Walk, which follows the 10K. For information on the walk, call (800) 642-3282.
